Sowing a lawn: timing, amount, care after sowing
A good lawn starts with preparation and the right amount of seed.
Step by step
- Prepare the soil: remove weeds and stones, loosen it, rake it smooth.
- Starter fertilizer: spread it as stated on the pack.
- Sow: spread the seed in two passes crosswise so it lies evenly.
- Roll or tread it down for good contact with the soil.
- Keep it moist: do not let it dry out in the first weeks.
Amount
New lawn about 30 g per square meter, overseeding about 15 g, shade mixes a little more. Example: 100 m² of new lawn need about 3 kg of seed.
Tips
- The first mowing follows at a height of about 8 to 10 cm.
- Walk on the young lawn as little as possible.
